On-tour emergencies

Confirmed guests receive a 24/7 duty line via their coordinator. Before departure, save our desk numbers offline.

Altitude & acclimatisation

Ascend gradually, hydrate, and never ignore headache or nausea at elevation.

  • Build rest days into itineraries above 3,000 m.
  • Avoid alcohol and sleeping pills at altitude.
  • Descend immediately if symptoms worsen—do not wait until morning.

Weather & seasons

Passes, flights, and trekking routes depend on seasonal windows.

  • Karakoram treks: June–September is the main season; shoulder months can bring snow.
  • Monsoon affects lower Himalaya and road access to Kaghan and Swat.
  • Carry warm layers even in summer—night temperatures drop sharply.

Roads & remote travel

Mountain highways are scenic but unpredictable.

  • Allow buffer days for landslides on KKH, Babusar, and side valleys.
  • Wear seatbelts; avoid night driving on unfamiliar routes.
  • Keep passport copies and emergency contacts accessible offline.

Culture & communities

Respectful travel opens doors in Kalash, Hunza, and Chitral.

  • Ask permission before photographing people, especially in Kalash villages.
  • Dress modestly at mosques and in conservative areas.
  • Learn a few Urdu or local phrases—guests are welcomed warmly.

Health & fitness

Honest fitness disclosure keeps groups safe on steep trails.

  • Consult your doctor before high-altitude or strenuous treks.
  • Pack a personal first-aid kit and any prescription medicines.
  • Drink bottled or treated water; avoid raw salads where hygiene is uncertain.

Insurance & evacuation

Comprehensive cover is essential for trekking and climbing.

  • Confirm helicopter evacuation and high-altitude limits in writing.
  • Carry policy numbers and emergency hotline on your phone.
  • Register with your embassy if your government recommends it.

Before you travel

  • Check visa requirements for your nationality and apply early—expeditions need additional permits.
  • Share a copy of your itinerary and insurance with someone at home.
  • Download offline maps for Gilgit-Baltistan and KPK corridors.
  • Review our Cancellation & Refund policy in case weather forces a change.

Permits & documentation

Many areas—Deosai, Khunjerab, restricted valleys, and climbing peaks—require permits or NOC letters.ALTITUDE PAKISTAN assists with paperwork when included in your package. Always carry original passport and permit copies while travelling.
